Our Final Poster of the Project
Our design campus project was a fun learning of architecture and design. This not only improved our designing skills, but we also used a certain computer program called Sketchup. We used Sketchup by designing our 3-D models like our shared space and our whole campus as our final and complete designs. Designing the school campus we also learned how to draw things to scale and how we incorporated this into our project was we put our design on paper as a scale model and then when we used Sketchup we actually put our models to scale and used the actual measurements. I feel that i didn't learn as much as I wanted to in this project, but it was interesting to know how to design things and be able to put things scale, though I was frustrated with Sketchup and the other computer programs that we used, I mostly enjoyed doing this project and I feel that I could have learned more than I did.
When we worked on this project, we all had certain assignments to do, I was in charge of doing the budget. What I learned while doing the budget is it is hard to try to put things in which you want them. While I was doing the windows there was a certain size that I needed, but of course it was too big to be able to fit in the size I needed, so I had to make it smaller. Yes, in budget and marketing you have to work with numbers, but it isn't just prices, it is also how you want certain sizes and includes ow you needs to size somethings down and what you need. Though it was easier looking for smaller objects in the budgeting like couches and bean bags, it was hard to try and not go over budget with everything else because I did the windows, walls, and flooring done. Though it was challenging in this process of budgeting I had become stressed out in because I had gone too much over budget. I guess if I do budget and materials next time to start with bigger things and then go into the smaller things.
Group work is hard, depending on different personalities and different opinions, but our group worked hard and got what we needed to do done, though there were some struggles during this process, I feel that we all worked hard. Our group work in this project stood out because most of the time we all had something to do though we each had different personalities, our ideas were heard. What was difficult in the groups was sometimes we would get distracted and not stay on task, or not know what was going on. I wish I could have taken more charge of the group and then we would have gotten our assignments done on time. I feel that I could have done more work, when I tried to offer to help, my other group members would give me small tasks to do when I was done with my main priority of work or said that I didn't need to do anything. I feel that I could have done more even after i was done with my work. All in all this group was a good working group, we never really argued or rudely disagreed with each other, we stuck with what we had to do and I feel that this was a good group to work with.
During this project the students designed their own campus, this gives them a bit of freedom and makes the students feel like their voice is being heard. I feel that this is very important because during our work we had this process where we would figure out what the community, students, and teachers wanted by doing our empathy interviews. From these interviews we got the feedback we wanted depending on what students, teachers, and the community wanted. Also from these interviews we got our ideas from the feedback and having those opinions, we were able to construct ideas with our minds. So yes, it is important for the students' voice to be heard because they are the ones who are using this campus, which can helped with the designs of our campuses.
