The Hero's Journey Project
What we did in this project was we learned though articles, videos, and the readings of Siddhartha and The Alchemist about The Hero's Journey.
The Hero's Journey is a telling of a hero or a main character through stages. The Calling, Crossing the Exit Threshold, Trials and Tribulations, The Abyss, Apotheosis, Crossing the Return Threshold, and Rejoining the Community. Through this we looked at examples, by watching Star Wars and finding The Hero's Journey though modern examples that we have today, The Hunger Games, Lord of the Rings, and Harry Potter.
We later on read The Alchemist and then later we read Siddhartha both finding examples of The Hero's Journey in each of the books. An example of the Call is when Harry Potter gets the letter to go to Hogwarts. Crossing the Threshold is when he is riding the train to Hogwarts. Trials and Tribulations would be confronting Malfoy at different times or when he goes into The Forbidden Forest in the first book. The Abyss is when the hero feels like giving up and they are at their lowest moment, but later find strength to continue to defeat their enemy. An example of this in Harry Potter is when he is fighting in The Battle of Hogwarts and he is seeing everyone get hurt or dying around him, he is still later on able to defeat Voldermort. Crossing the Return Threshold. The Apotheosis is when see their world through new eyes and learn something about that world. After the battle him and his friends are reflecting on how they don't have to fight anymore. Crossing the Exit Threshold is them returning home. Rejoining Their Community is when they are able to tell stories about what they have learned and in Harry Potter at the end of the last book Harry is able to teach his son a lesson about Hogwarts and how he doesn't have to be scared about being sorted into Slytherin.
After we finished our books we got into the process of brainstorming to tell our own story. Through critique and critiquing others we were then able to choose to read our story at our exhibition, but we did have to present our stories in front of the class. When finished we put on an amazing exhibition that showed students of our class telling their personal stories.

How I felt that I grew in this project was I felt that I really connected to when we were reading Siddhartha and The Alchemist.
An example of this is these books taught me many valuable lessons about life in the present day even if at the beginning of this project I thought that when I first picked up the two books I wouldn't learn anything from them. I thought that they would be really boring, but of course I was wrong. These books taught me a lot like being able to love everything as it is and everyone as they are which is something that I struggle with. Another thing that they taught me was not to worry about the future and focus on the present and being able to enjoy those moments and being able to live life just by doing that. Other things that they taught me was to find ways to relate lessons like these in old books and relate them to real life which I did. I learned that only you can fix you and not someone else. I learned that following your own path even though you don't know where you are going can lead you through ups and downs, but as long as you find something to faith in or you can be optimistic about life you can get through whatever comes your way.
These books really helped me and taught me a lot that I hope I could keep as knowledge for the future. I really felt that I grew with these books and learned a lot.
Something that I felt that I could have done better on is I think I could have chosen a more personal story to present and maybe that would have boosted up my confidence a little bit. I really wish that I chose a different story because after I chose what I chose to do I thought of other stories that I could have told or lessons that I would be able to teach, and good advice that I would have been able to give. If I was proud of my story and if I was more confident in myself I would have been able to present.

Lessons that I will be able to take away from this project is being able to be confident with my story and how to tell it.
Though I didn't tell a story on stage, I was able to piece together my own story and be able to tell it in front of the class. Though I was super nervous I was proud of myself for being able to get through it. Learning and remembering the content knowledge in this project about story telling has really helped me piece together of how I want to tell stories in the future and be able to be better at it like putting detail and emotion into it. When getting critiques for my story it was pretty rough in the beginning, but with critiques from peers and from my teacher I was able to make it better with emotion, details, and practice in front of my peers.
I feel that what I learned about story telling will stick with me in the future and will help me become a better writer, a better presenter, and a better storyteller.
