Day of the Dead originated from the Spanish Catholics from when they found America. Day of the Dead is celebrated for loved ones who have died and celebrating how they think they come back for a day to be with them for a night. It is the celebration of passed loved ones in order to remember them. It has been a tradition ever since that time. It was celebrated originally in Spain and is now celebrated in Mexico. It is celebrated on the first of November. How it is celebrated is they will build altars for their loved ones, or they will put things like candles, sugar skulls, pictures of them, things that reminded them of their loved ones in the cemeteries. Or they will make altars and put those types of things on their altars. They believe that during the night their loved ones will come and visit them form the dead and be with them for a night and then leave. I decided to celebrate my great grandmother, she was loved by me and everyone else around her. She was a kind and beautiful woman and she deserves to be celebrated. This experience in this project was sad, but it was also uplifting because you are remembering them even though she is gone, she isn't truly gone because we still celebrate her. I put a bible and a very large book which contained all of my family's history on her side of the family. The rest of the items were pecal picado and paper made flowers along with a description for her and candles. I also had a picture of her. I felt good exhibiting the a;tar because it showed how I would celebrate her and how the celebration is honering her. I feel like I learned a lot in this project, not only did I learn how to describe someone in the past, but I learned a part of Spanish culture and that really helped me get the experience. Over all I did enjoy doing this project and I learned a lot, though it was kind of emotional and overwhelming I really enjoyed it and not learning about my family's history, but the Spanish culture as well.
